Hobbs, New Mexico – Jan.3, 2025 – New Mexico Junior College President Derek Moore, Ed.D., has resigned.
In his letter of resignation, he stated, “After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to resign as President of New Mexico Junior College. Unfortunately, recent, and ongoing family health issues require my attention and involvement, which includes being closer in proximity to help care for the health needs of immediate family members. Serving as President of New Mexico Junior College has been an honor and privilege. I am grateful for the support, commitment, and opportunities shown to me during my time as President. It has been a rewarding experience as the college has continued to grow in areas of student success, institutional effectiveness, and community engagement.”
At a Special NMJC Board of Directors meeting on January 3, 2025 the Board named NMJC General Counsel/Chief Community Liaison Scotty Holloman as Acting President, effective immediately, and until the next board meeting Jan.16, at which time they will name an interim president.
“We are grateful for Dr. Moore’s leadership and understand the importance of taking care of family,” said NMJC Board Chair Pat Chappelle. “NMJC is in wonderful shape with a strong group of leaders in place, and we are confident operations will move forward seamlessly while we resume a presidential search. We remain committed to moving forward with the best interests of the college and its community in mind and know that the entire NMJC team is in wonderful shape with dedicated employees and leaders that will continue to work diligently to ensure a smooth transition during this time of change. Our top priority remains the success of our students, faculty, and staff, and we will continue to focus on our core mission of providing quality education and services.”
