Local employers and community leaders came together at New Mexico Junior College’s (NMJC) Watson Hall Auditorium for the Lea County Business Roundtable. This gathering provided an open platform for employers to discuss workforce challenges and explore innovative solutions with local leaders and experts. The event featured presentations, tours, and candid discussions, all aimed at supporting the business community and job seekers in Lea County.

The program began with a warm welcome and an insightful presentation by Amber David, who shared an overview of the current state of Lea County's business environment. Communications Director, Stacy Johnston, introduced a distinguished panel that included Secretary Sarita Nair and Marcos Martinez, among others. Nair delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the role of the Department of Workforce Solutions in addressing unemployment and supporting businesses in their hiring efforts. A lively Q&A session followed with Nair’s remarks, allowing attendees to dive deeper into workforce-related concerns.

Attendees also participated in a roundtable discussion led by Workforce Solutions representatives. The session fostered open dialogue and collaboration, with business leaders sharing their unique challenges and brainstorming potential solutions.

The event concluded with a tour of NMJC’s Workforce Development Career Center. The Vice President of Workforce Development, Steve Sauceda, and his team presented the various resources and services available to assist both job seekers and employers. Attendees also toured the college’s new facility, guided by NMJC Recruiter, Deira Fernandez.

Reflecting on the event, Fernandez said, "We met at Watson Hall for the community presentation, where discussion about unemployment and the workforce solution resources are available to assist business owners. Afterward, visitors toured the campus, ending at Workforce Development. The NMJC personnel presented about their respective areas regarding the division. Guests also explored the new Industrial Training Center (ITC), with the Director of Automation & Industrial Systems Workforce Development Jerry Morris, and Professor of Welding, Earl Nymeyer, showcasing their programs."

The Lea County Business Roundtable offered valuable insights into the local business environment while highlighting NMJC's commitment to workforce development. With the success of this event, NMJC and its partners are eager to continue fostering collaboration and driving innovation in Lea County.
