[Hobbs, NM] – September 27, 2024 – New Mexico Junior College proudly announces that Professor Valerie Onsurez Gauna has been honored as an Inspirational Educator for their outstanding commitment to supporting high school dual credit students. She was nominated by Hobbs High School senior athlete, Nivea Nash. The recognition highlights the professor's dedication to fostering academic excellence and personal growth.

The award was presented during a ceremony at HHS, where students, faculty, and community members gathered to celebrate the profound impact educators have on young lives.

"I feel humbled to have been even considered for such an honor. Nivea is an exceptional student, and it has been my privilege to be able to serve as her professor. She is really going places, and I cannot wait to see her continue to succeed in her very bright future,” said Onsurez Gauna.

The event served as a reminder of the vital role educators play in shaping the futures of their students, particularly those navigating the challenges of high school and college simultaneously.
