Two participants from New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) attended the University of New Mexico’s Mentoring Institute at the recent annual conference. Melissa Leake and Valerie Onsurez Gauna learned about the innovations in mentoring and highlighted the program's impact on their personal and academic growth.

Leake stated, “The week was full of learning what it means to mentor students and staff alike. The workshops were led by many talented individuals from all over the country ready and willing to share their wisdom to help inspire the individual to become a mentor at whatever level the person was at in their journey. Thank you to NMJC and the grant foundation for the opportunity.”

“I feel so privileged to have attended the UNM Mentoring Conference, as I gained insight and many connections to people across the nation that will help efforts of collaboration here at NMJC,” said Onsurez Gauna.

Both participants received knowledge and information on how to incorporate the mentoring practices in their respective areas. Both expressed gratitude for the mentorship and resources provided by the program.
