New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) welcomed the community with open arms on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2024, for the T-Bird Block Party, a day-long celebration of community and fun. The event, organized in honor of Community College Month, took place from 10 am to 6 pm at NMJC's campus grounds.
Attendees were treated to a vibrant array of activities and entertainment. The festivities kicked off with a selection of food trucks and pop-up shop vendors offering a range of food choices and unique merchandise. Live music filled the air throughout the day as talented local musicians took the stage to showcase their skills. Also, at the event was an obstacle course, bounce house, mechanical bull, and various games that provided endless fun excitement. Face painting provided by NMJC Cosmetology students allowed attendees to express their creativity with colorful designs. A highlight of the event was the dazzling car show, where classic and custom vehicles joined in captivating automotive enthusiasts and casual observers.
NMJC student ambassador Sebastian Tapia brought to life the T-Bird Block Party through collaborative efforts with the Outreach and Engagement Department and the Student Life Department. Reflecting on the success of the event, Tapia expressed his gratitude to the community for their enthusiastic participation.
"It was a lot of fun, I'm glad the community could come out and enjoy a Saturday at NMJC," said Tapia. NMJC Recruiter in the Outreach and Engagement Department, Brittney Garcia, echoed Tapia's sentiments, expressing excitement for future community engagement events at NMJC.
"We at NMJC are looking forward to more community engagement events in the future," said Garcia. "The T-Bird Block Party was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with our community and honor Community College Month."
Admission to the event was free for all attendees, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to join in the festivities. The good outcome of NMJC’s first T-Bird Block Party was shared by our attendees, vendors, and participants.
