In a heartfelt display of community unity, New Mexico Junior College (NMJC) participated in an impactful Domestic Violence Awareness Day event hosted by Option, Inc., a non-profit agency dedicated to providing shelter and assistance to victims of domestic violence in Lea County. The event, held in Hobbs, New Mexico on Oct. 4, 2024, aimed to shine a spotlight on the critical issue of domestic violence, fostering both awareness and support for victims in the region.

Option, Inc. took to their Facebook page to express their gratitude for the overwhelming turnout, stating, "This year was the biggest and best yet, thanks to YOU. We want to give a BIG thanks to those who showed up to support our calling! One person at a time, One effort, One mission, One purpose." The message encapsulated the spirit of the event, which encouraged community members in the fight against domestic violence and promoted resources available to those in need.

NMJC was represented by: Ayde Ayala and Mariela Baca Miyamoto from Adult Education, Roger Barr and Valerie Onsurez Gauna from Outreach & Engagement. NMJC is humbled to have been requested to join in this important cause and will look forward to participating in community events that advocate for awareness, education, and positive change.
