Foundation Scholarships

Welcome to New Mexico Junior College Foundation Scholarship application process! 


Scholarship applications are only accepted online and it is highly recommended that applicants fill out their FAFSA first. 

 

Three steps to complete your NMJC Foundation Scholarship Application: 

(Please note: This application is for Scholarships to attend NMJC)

1. Obtain your current transcript :

If you are or will be a high school graduate by the time you enroll at NMJC:

If you are currently in high school, upload your high school transcript.
If you have graduated from high school within the past five years and have not taken college courses, please provide your high school transcript.
If you have graduated from high school in the past five years and have taken college courses, please provide college transcript only.
If you have graduated from high school more than five years ago, no high school transcript is required.

If you have obtained your GED:

If you have completed a GED, received a high school diploma through an alternative program, or have completed at least three GED tests, please submit proof of this completion along with your scholarship application.

If you have already attended some college:

If you have completed college work at another institution, please provide your college transcripts. Only records from the past five years are required.
Students who have taken NMJC classes are only required to submit unofficial transcripts, you will find this on your T-bird Portal. 

 

2. Type a one-page essay and include the information:

* Explain your interest in NMJC.
* Describe your personal and professional goals.
* Provide your major of study or program of choice.
* Detail why you feel qualified for an NMJC Foundation scholarship (this may include awards, accomplishments, and community involvement), and any additional information you want the selection committee to consider.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU TYPE MORE THAN ONE PAGE, ONLY THE FIRST PAGE WILL BE CONSIDERED.
 

3.  Complete the Online Application Form 

 



 

Three steps to complete your FINIS HEIDEL Scholarship Application: 
(Please note: There are 2 categories for this scholarship)

Category One: Lea County high school graduate who will be attending a four-year university in New Mexico (or a university that accepts in-state tuition for Lea County residents), in the fall immediately following graduation. 

Category Two: NMJC graduate who will be attending a four-year university in New Mexico (or a university that accepts in-state tuition for Lea County residents), who has graduated from a Lea County high school within the last 3 years.

The following criteria must be met to qualify for either of the Heidel Scholarship categories:
* Students must be a graduate of a high school in Lea County

* Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
* Must be a U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident and resident of New Mexico
* ACT of 22 or above (or equivalent SAT or Accuplacer scores) required
* Must maintain 12 credit hours or more each semester
* Scholarship for fall and spring semesters only, no summer scholarship
* Failure to meet all criteria, withdrawal from school, failure to submit thank you letter, joining armed forces, any behavior resulting in expulsion or disciplinary action by school, any attempt at fraudulent use of funds and any other reasons at the discretion of NMJC Foundation are grounds to forfeit scholarship. 


1. Obtain your Transcript

If you are currently in high school, upload your high school transcript.
If you are a current NMJC student applying to a scholarship to transfer to a 4-year University, upload your NMJC transcript.

 

2. Type a one-page personal essay, which should include the following:

* Explain your interest in a qualified university.
* Describe your personal and professional goals.
* Provide your major of study or program of choice.
* Detail why you feel qualified for a Finis Heidel scholarship (this may include awards, accomplishments, and community involvement), and any additional
    information you want the selection committee to consider.
* If you are an NMJC graduate, explain how NMJC has helped you.

3. Complete the Online Application Form

 


Although the initial deadline for application submission is March 15, we are happy to accept late applications!
