Director's Welcome

Darrell Beauchamp

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the electronic presence of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, the premier institution devoted to the history and culture of Lea County and the surrounding area. Whether you visit us at physical home on the campus of New Mexico Junior College, 1 Thunderbird Circle, or only here on the web, we hope you will gain new insights into this wonderful region and its culture.

The Museum was founded in 1978 as the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, and was charged with documenting and preserving the cowboy, rodeo and ranch life of Southeast New Mexico. Since 2005, with the construction of our new facility, we have been known as the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame.

I encourage you to explore every aspect of this website. And, we would love to welcome you here at our physical home in Hobbs, NM. And do consider becoming a member -- you don't have to be a current resident of Southeast New Mexico to enjoy the many advantages of membership. If we can facilitate your visit to our incredible museum in any way, please don't hesitate to let one of us know.
