NMJC Offers Construction Degree
January 18 — Hobbs, NM. Construction and Industrial Technology is a new degree that New Mexico Junior College began to offer fall 2005. Students can become a certified carpenter, electrician, plumber, brick mason or site supervisor.
The class is offered evenings at Hobbs High School and high school students enrolled in this class receive dual credit, according to NMJC Dean of Business and Technology Mary Jane Ward.
The fieldwork involves working with Habitat for Humanity on the weekends to assist with building homes for those less fortunate in the Hobbs community.
"With the new construction in Lea County, we created this program to answer the demand for skilled workers in those fields," said Ward. "This is a win-win for our students and those in our community who benefit from Habitat."
Registration is currently under way. Students may register from now until closes for Jan. 23; however, classes begin on Jan. 17.
Students who attended NMJC in the fall may go online at www.nmjc.edu and register at anytime from now until Jan. 23.
