September 12 – Hobbs, NM. Established as a federal holiday in 2004, Constitution Day is an opportunity to educate new generations of Americans on how the U.S. Constitution has changed history.
New Mexico Junior College and area schools throughout Lea County will partner in joint celebration of the holiday on Friday, September 15, at 1:00 p.m. in the Daniels Conference Room in the Ben Alexander Student Learning Center at NMJC. Senator Gay Kernan is scheduled as keynote speaker for the event, and Ronnie Gray and the NMJC Sensations will present a musical patriotic tribute. Throughout the day, a videotape demonstrating the critical contribution the Constitution has played in America’s role in world history will be playing in the T-Bird Room.
At the event, a number of Lea County students will also be honored for their artistic and literary efforts in sharing their interpretation of the Constitution. Winners will receive awards and prizes of various types.
NMJC’s Constitution Day Celebration is open to the public and free of charge.
