NMJC Crowns Homecoming King and Queen
February 10, 2006 — Hobbs, NM. New Mexico Junior College has new royalty on campus.
Sergio Rodriquez and Valerie Onsurez, both from Loving, New Mexico, were crowned NMJC Homecoming King and Queen during half time of the men’s basketball game Feb. 9 in the Caster Activity Center gym.
The students, who have been best friends since kindergarten, said this was one more memory they get to share in together.
“Valerie is a very special person who has been given many blessings. She's smart and she's very personable,” said Phi Beta Lambda club sponsor and NMJC professor of accounting Robert Guthrie. “Phi Beta Lambda is proud to have her as our president this year. We know that this is one young person who will change the world.”
Onsurez represented PBL, band and cheerleaders. Rodriquez was nominated by the college democrats student club, which is sponsored by government and history professor Patty Emmerich.
“I am so excited that Sergio made King,” said Emmerich. “He is a wonderful people-person.”
