Discover NMJC

10/10/2011 4:12:02 a.m. - Hobbs, NM. Discover NMJC is a great opportunity for high school seniors and juniors as well as community members to learn more about what NMJC offers. On Friday, October 21, from 9 - 11 :30 a.m., NMJC faculty and staff will showcase academic programs, activities, and facilities. Individuals will tour the campus, meet faculty and staff, engage in interactive activities, and see what NMJC offers.

Fuentez, a current NMJC student, said, "During my senior year I remember thinking, 'Where am I going to go to college?' I had wanted to go to a major university, but finding out that it was going to cost me $15,000 for one semester was just out of the question. I met one of the NMJC recruiters, who gave me a ton of information about how I could take my basics and transfer credits to another university. After that, I talked to my parents about how affordable NMJC was, and they agreed that it would be smarter to attend here and then transfer to a major university."

Fuentez joined the Campus Ambassadors and is now a work-study student in the Counseling Office. She added, "Since I have been here I have not paid a single penny out of my own pocket. My personal advice would be before transferring to a major university and spending all that money, check out NMJC and see what we have to offer!"

Mirella Enriquez, another NMJC student, agrees. "As I was beginning to plan a new adventure after high school, I stopped to think about the one thing that all seniors in high school were thinking: What college will I go to? Most of my friends had already picked out their "next step," and I had not. I knew I wanted to go somewhere close to home and affordable, but I had no idea what NMJC offered until I spoke to a recruiter at Discover NMJC. I went with the tour guides all over campus, showing us the buildings and where we could go if we ever had a question about our classes or anything pertaining to school. This made me feel safe, secure, and confident in my decision to attend NMJC."

Enriquez added, "Today, I am still attending NMJC, and I keep myself busy with classes and activities. There is no doubt in my mind that I didn't make a mistake coming here. If someone were to ask me if they should come here - even if it's just for basics - my answer would surely have to be yes. If you are looking for somewhere that is fun, affordable, and close to home, then you should definitely check out New Mexico Junior College. Discover NMJC is a great way to get information to help you make an informed decision about college."
