NMJC Roisters Homecoming Week
2/5/2007 12:49:19 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. Beginning Monday, January 29, 2007, New Mexico Junior College began honoring the traditional celebration of Homecoming Week.
"We organize Homecoming Week to help get the NMJC community in the spirit. It's a great kickoff to the semester, and it brings in student involvement," explained DeMond Thomas, Coordinator of Student Activities & Intramurals.
Homecoming Court nominee voting began on Monday, followed by Game Show Mania on Tuesday. Wednesday brought out Daily Double Dinner Raffles, with the Homecoming Court being crowned during halftime of Thursday night's Thunderbird basketball game. On Friday, the Homecoming Dance rounded out the week's festivities.
Eric Garcia, who represented College Ambassadors, and Deidra Harrison, who represented the Track Team, were honored as NMJC's Homecoming Court Thursday evening. Garcia, a sophomore from Hobbs, is also a leader of NMJC's Fellowship of Christian Athletes, has been listed on the Vice President's and Dean's Honor Roll lists, and is a Residence Hall Supervisor. Harrison, a sophomore from St. Catherine, Jamaica, was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American her freshman year, and finished fifth place at the 2006 NJCAA National Championship in distance medley relay and sixth place in the 400m relay.
"I'd like to thank our sponsors, who donate prizes to us every year to give out during the week's activities," Thomas stated. Sponsors include Athletic Supply, Applebee's, Pizza Inn, Alberthia's Flowers, Everything Nice, Zia Race Track & Black Gold Casino.
