Winner of Computer Announced at NMJC Orientation
8/23/2010 11:36:33 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. As of Saturday, the luck of one NMJC student changed for the better.
When Hobbs resident Talya Webb learned that her name had been drawn as the winner of a new Dell Inspiron laptop computer during NMJC’s Fall Orientation on Saturday, August 21, she couldn’t believe it, insisting, “I never, ever, ever win anything.”
But when DeMond Thomas, Student Life Coordinator, handed her the new laptop and congratulated her, Talya clutched her new prize proudly. “I still can’t believe it, but I think it’s great,” she said. “I finally won something!”
Webb was one of approximately 600 students, parents, and family members who attended the half-day event, which included a number of break-out sessions that addressed questions and concerns that new students might encounter. When asked what the morning had meant to her, one student described the experience as “a neat way to learn about some of the rules, regulations, and possibilities of college life, with a bunch of prizes and food thrown in to make it even better.”
