NMJC to Present Band Concert

3/6/2009 12:06:15 a.m. - Hobbs, NM. On Sunday, March 8, at 3 p.m., the New Mexico Junior College and Community Band will present "An Afternoon of Fine Classical Music" in the Watson Hall Auditorium.

Dr. Yau-Sun Wong, Professor of Music, will direct and conduct the concert, which includes such favorites as the "1812 Overture" and excerpts from "Symphony No. 6" by Tschaikovshy; the Finale of "Symphony No. 5" by Shostakovich; "Canzon in Echo" by Gabrieli; "Night on Bald Mountain" by Moussorgsky; "Suite from the Planets" by Holst; "Arioso" by Bach; and Hoe Down by Copland.

The 2008-2009 NMJC and Community Band is comprised of the following members: flute/piccolo: Ross Strickland, Lou Gilless; flute: Jessica Johnson, Don Robinson, Ruth Ann J. Wong; violin: Jonathan Au, Rebecca Loewen; clarinet: David Austin, Andrea Cairnes, Azucena Molina, Victoria Factor, Allison McCormick; bass clarinet: Harold Shaw; bassoon: David Allen; French horn: Austin Brake, Bree Anne Harwerth; soprano saxophone: Jay Patton; alto saxophone: Zayra Burciaga, Barbara Gilbert; tenor saxophone: Tovar Junior Arturo, Yolanda Jurado; baritone saxophone: Don Cole; trumpet: Bubba Wood, Harold Brown, Brandon Johnson (also bass guitar); trombone: David Clark, Chad Laster, Adams R, Ted Smith; baritone: Mark Davey (also trumpet), Adrian Triplett; tuba: John Gilbert, Jesus Vega; string bass: Mariah Claiborne; timpani: Wayne Sager; keyboard: Brandi Campbell; percussion: Gael Patman, Clarissa Dominquez, Mark Jimenez, and Henry Gutierrez.
