NMJC Foundation Golf Tournament Raises Record Amount
6/16/2008 1:07:13 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. The hot but eventful weekend of June 6-8 brought about the ninth annual Jim Spence Memorial/New Mexico Junior College Foundation Golf Championship. Along with an exciting schedule of events, the tournament raised a record amount of sponsorships.
Play consisted of a total of 55 two-person teams in three days' different events. On Friday evening, the tournament kicked off with the Skills Challenge Block Party. The Challenge was open to tournament and non-tournament participants and consisted of closest-to-the-pin, long drive, and putting contests. Saturday morning was the beginning of the tournament itself, which ran through Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday.
With an increase of almost $6,000, sponsorships for the tournament hit a record $60,375 this year. All proceeds benefit the Jim Spence Memorial Scholarship Endowment managed by NMJC Foundation. The Endowment fund provides scholarships to qualifying students.
"The tournament has such an awesome affect on students at NMJC. The work we did nine years ago is still impacting students today," said Jennifer Jordon, Executive Director of NMJC Foundation. "We are fortunate to build upon that each and every year all the while knowing that students will continue to receive assistance from the Jim Spence Memorial Scholarship forever."
