NMJC Training and Outreach Facility Open House
4/17/2008 5:17:55 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. A warm afternoon greeted attendees of the Training and Outreach Facility Open House Dedication. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, visitors strolled through the halls and classrooms of NMJC's newest building.
Present at the open house were NM Secretary of Higher Education Reed Dasenbrock, Senators Carroll Leavell and Gay Kernan, NMJC alum and reigning Mrs. New Mexico, Courtney Whitley, NMJC President Steve McCleery, NMJC Board Members, employees and students of NMJC, and members of the community.
Commenting on the beauty and practicality of the facility, and the way in which personnel were already utilizing the classrooms, Dasenbrock said, "I was given a tour of the campus today, and I went to this building and didn't realize it was the building being opened....It looked like it had been in business for a long time."
To commemorate the opening of the facility, a brief program was presented, including remarks by NMJC Board Chair Larry Hanna, Dasenbrock, Leavell, and McCleery. The proceedings concluded with Whitley cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Afterward, a live band played in the background as visitors greeted one another and enjoyed refreshments in the beautiful and spacious main hallway.
Although this event hailed the grand opening of the building, workforce training classes have been going on for two months, some of them as the structure was being completed. This is a testament to the need for the new facility. President McCleery stated that he is proud of the fact that the center will provide effective short-term training of any kind, coming from anywhere, to any one who requests it.
NMJC is pleased to inaugurate the new facility and is grateful to all who have had a hand in its creation and helped celebrate its opening.
