NMJC Outdoor Track Places Sixth at Nationals

NMJC Outdoor Track Places Sixth at Nationals photo 5/23/2007 9:23:07 a.m. - Hobbs, NM. The New Mexico Junior College women's outdoor track and field team finished in sixth place at the National Junior College Athletic Association National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Coffeyville, KS, this past weekend.

Out of 27 teams participating in the competition, NMJC walked away with a composite team score of 45.5 points, only 1.5 points away from fifth place and just half a point ahead of seventh place, due to ten All-American finishes in ten individual categories.

Melesia Mafile'o, a sophomore, placed second in the triple jump. Mafile'o also placed third in the high jump and javelin throw, along with freshmen Trudeann Clarke finishing third in the 200m dash.

Fourth place finishes include: Mafile'o in the discus, and sophomores Monique Davis and Deidra Harrison and freshmen Jodian Richards and Clarke in the 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 400m relay. Harrison placed eighth in the 400m hurdles, and freshman Monica Fierro placed ninth in the discus.
