TBirds Baseball to Play Pink for Angel Flights
4/18/2018 5:15:56 p.m. - Hobbs, NM.
When the Thunderbirds play Luna Community College Saturday, Coach Jimmy Durham will not only be focusing to win the double headers that day, but he will also be raising money for Angel Flights South Central. He wants to bring awareness to the service Angel Flights provides to cancer victims and their families by dedicating these games as Play Pink.
Durham lost his wife Michele to breast cancer 14 years ago, while he was the TBirds assistant baseball coach. Angel Flights helped the family stay together during her treatments in Houston, flying the entire family, including their five children, for free.
“It was an emotional time for all of us, and Angel Flights truly made it bearable,” said Durham. “The children felt safer being with their mom during those trips, and I will always be thankful to the organization for the help they gave my family.”
Donations will be accepted at the games, which start at 12noon, Saturday, April 21. Play Pink t-shirts are also available for $15. Orders can be made with Coach Durham at email@example.com.
Angel Flights is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteer pilots who provide transportation needs at no cost to the patients or passengers, when they cannot get the medical treatment needed locally. They work with hospitals, doctors’ offices, social workers and others who need their services. Donations are used to recruit and engage new pilots, coordinate transportation missions, and work with hospitals and social service agencies. More information is available at www.angelflightsc.org.
