4/25/2007 6:34:39 p.m. - Hobbs, NM. An Afternoon of Favorite Musical Tunes concert of Strauss, jazz, and highlights from several of Broadway's most beloved musicals will be presented on Sunday, April 29, 3 pm, in Watson Hall.
This musical treat features collaborations between Dr. Yau-Sun Wong's NMJC 40-piece Community Band and vocalists, guest soprano Summer Robinson, and 12 NMJC Ultra-Tsonics singers directed by Anne Turner Tsonis.
Band members Mark Davey, Justin Roberts, and Karen Shaw will be featured with popular Summer Robinson in jazz vocals.
Versatile band instrumentalists, who are also Ultra-Tsonics vocal soloists, Michael Bradley, Ben Bruelhart, Brandi Campbell, and Denise Lemery will perform. Other community and student Ultra-Tsonics soloists are April Austin, Edward Bolton, Heather Bunnell, Rebecca Loewen, Aryel Pena, William Raabe II, Tyler Thomason, and Heidi Webb. The Ultra-Tsonics singers will perform Broadway hits from My Fair Lady and Les Miserables in costume accompanied by the band with special arrangements by Anne Turner Tsonis.
General admission is $5, and $3 for seniors. Children and students are free.
Don't miss upcoming events from the NMJC music department. A music recital, featuring NMJC vocal, piano, and instrument students, will be held on Monday, April 30, 7:30 pm, at Watson Hall. Admission is free. The Pirates of Penzance featuring NMJC & the Community Chorale and Orchestra will be held May 3, 5, & 6 at Watson Hall.
