Jeremy Capo To Leave for Iowa Western Athletic Director Position

4/11/2016 5:19:21 p.m. - Hobbs, NM.

New Mexico Junior College announced Monday that athletic director Jeremy Capo is leaving his position at NMJC to become the new athletic director at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Capo will take his new position in mid-June.

“This was a very difficult decision for me and my family,” stated Capo.  “The people here at NMJC and in Lea County have been wonderful since I arrived almost two years ago, and it will be very hard to leave.  I am truly thankful and proud of what we have accomplished here, and I value the relationships.  Ultimately the opportunity at Iowa Western was one I could not pass up.”

Phillip Roybal, Vice President for Student Services, said there will be an immediate nation-wide search to replace Capo. “Jeremy’s professional approach to his position elevated the role of Athletic Director at NMJC so that our athletics programs have gained added recognition nationally. Because of Jeremy’s hard work in raising the academic and competitive expectations he has for our coaches and student-athletes, we know he leaves our programs in a better place. His success makes our job easier in attracting new, qualified candidates.”

Capo arrived at NMJC in May 2014 from Colorado State University-Pueblo where he was associate athletic director for seven years.  A Colorado Springs native, he received both his master’s and bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University.
