Christmas Music for the Holidays

New Mexico Junior College music department will be presenting several upcoming concerts and events as part of their holiday/end of year performances. All events are open to the community.

The first concert is Sunday, November 29 at 6 p.m. in Lovington at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, with the NMJC Community Chorale performing “An Evening of Christmas Songs”.  Popular songs to be performed include “A Christmas Festival”, “Going Home for the Holidays”, “A Holly Jolly Celebration”, “A Family Christmas Spectacular”, “An Olde English Christmas”, “A Christmas Serenade”, and more. 

Dr. Yau-Sun Wong, NMJC Professor of Music, is Director and Conductor for the concert.  “Our annual Christmas concert is always fun, to help get everyone in the spirit of the holiday,” says Dr. Wong. The Hobbs Community Orchestra will be performing with the Chorus. 

Admission is free for everyone.  Hillcrest Baptist Church is located at 220 West Avenue I in Lovington.

The next evening Monday, November 30, vocal students from the NMJC Music Department will present their annual recital in Watson Hall Auditorium.  The recital begins at 7 p.m. with free admission to the public.

Wednesday, December 2 at 7 p.m., music students will present their annual Instrumental Recital in Watson Hall, which is also open to the public with free admission.

Sunday, December 6 at 3:00 p.m is the final concert with the NMJC Community Band, performing “An Afternoon of Christmas Celebration”.  The concert takes place at Watson Hall on the NMJC campus.  The NMJC Vocal Quartet and the NMJC Community Chorale will also be performing.

The Christmas concert includes songs like “A Christmas Festival”, “We Wish You a Mambo Christmas”, “Feliz Navidad”, “Jingle-Bell Rock”, Santa Baby”, “Big Band Holiday”, and many more.

Admission for the December 6 concert is $5 general, $3 seniors and free for students and children.
