Tony O'Brien Talks About Light in the Desert
3/9/2015 10:20:03 a.m. - Hobbs, NM.
Photographer Tony O’Brien will give a talk about his exhibit and book, “Light in the Desert: Photographs from the Monastery of Christ in the Desert”, Saturday, March 14 at 5:00 pm at the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. The public is invited free of charge for the gallery talk, exhibit of the photographs and book signing.
O’Brien, who sought solace at the monastery after being imprisoned by the Afghan government while on assignment for Life magazine, was allowed to photograph the daily activities of the monks at the monastery. Twenty of these works of art are currently on exhibit at the museum.
“We are delighted that Tony O’Brien can come to Hobbs to talk about his experiences at the monastery,” said Dr. Darrell Beauchamp, Executive Director of the Western Heritage Museum and Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame. “The photographs showcase a spiritual world that most people would never experience, and to hear him talk about this will help visitors understand the peace he found there.”
The exhibit is on display at the museum through April 19. Copies of O’Brien’s books are available in the Museum Store.
