An Afternoon of American Jazz with NMJC Community Band

New Mexico Junior College music department, along with the Carlsbad Wind Symphony, presents “An Afternoon of American Jazz” in two cities: Saturday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. at NMJC’s Watson Hall Auditorium in Hobbs, and Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 p.m. at Carlsbad’s P. R. Leyva Auditorium.
The lively afternoon of music will feature classic jazz pieces as well as popular songs with a jazz flair. The musicians will perform songs like “In the Mood”, “Indiana”, “Southern Charm”, “The Beatles Remembered”, “Classical Gas”, “Mancini”, “Treasure” and many more. Ten members of the NMJC band have bachelor’s or master’s degrees in music. Some of them are past or current band directors. Conductors are NMJC’s Dr. Yau-Sun Wong and Mr. Paul Cosand.
Dr. Wong stated, “New Mexico Junior College has a wonderful relationship with the Carlsbad Wind Symphony. We have performed together in the past, and look forward to performing in both cities in the next two weeks. It is a great opportunity for the NMJC students to play with professional musicians.”
After the concert on March 7 at NMJC, the Band Club will have a bake sale, with proceeds benefiting Humphrey House.
Admission is free for NMJC Students and all children for both concerts. General admission is $5 or $3 for seniors.
