New Mexico Junior College 2014 graduate Kody Lamb earned the 2014 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rookie of the Year in bareback riding and will be recognized for his accomplishment during the National Finals Rodeo Dec. 4-13 in Las Vegas.
Lamb – a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada – earned $16,986.40 this past year and edged Kash Wilson by $2,338.85 even though Lamb got a bit of a late start to the season as he didn’t start competing professionally until December.
Lamb, who finished with two degrees from NMJC and graduated with a 4.0 GPA, was a two-time qualifier for the College National Finals Rodeo for the Thunderbirds in 2013 and 2014. Lamb was the Dutch Klein Award winner in 2014 at NMJC, the most prestigious athletic award given by the school based on the student-athlete’s scholarship, citizenship and athletic achievement for the school year.
Lamb is currently on a rodeo scholarship at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, while competing in both collegiate and professional rodeos.
