Our first meet of the season was an eye opener , especially for our freshmen women. At race time, the temperature and humidity were much higher than we were anticipating. Since it was the first race of the season, the girls were anxious and opened up much faster than we needed to at the beginning. Both Tauna Higgins and Lorraine Villegas led the field through the early stages of the race. Lorraine (freshman) held on and was able to finish 12th in a tough field of NAIA and NCAA Div. II teams.
I felt the girls competed well for the first meet but learned what it takes to compete at the collegiate level. Our next meet will be held at University of New Mexico with a field of 12 Collegiate teams consisting of JUCO, NAIA, NCAA Division I, and NCAA Division II teams. Our competition level will be higher along with the elevation increase. I am expecting better racing from all of our women this weekend with our focus on WJCAC to be held November 16 at South Plains Junior College. GO T-BIRDS!!!!
